Vehicle magnets typically last two to three years (and sometimes more) with precision use and care. You can apply and remove them time and time again; transfer magnets from one vehicle to another; rotate magnets monthly for changing sales or promotions; or install for a season and store until needed again.

Over time, magnet handling and UV exposure can degrade graphics or damage signs if cleaning and care are neglected. To capitalize on their versatility and keep car signs performing to expectations, Performance Signs recommends following these key steps for vehicle magnet maintenance.

Four-Point Program for Protecting Vehicle Magnets

#1: PREP VEHICLE SURFACES.

• Before placing your vehicle magnet, select a vertical surface that is flat or gently curved.
• Clean, dry and apply a coat of car wax to the area where the sign will be affixed.
• Clean the back of the sign with mild detergent and warm water. Dry and wax it before applying.

#2: APPLY VEHICLE MAGNET SMOOTHLY TO VEHICLE.

• Measure your space to ensure level, properly aligned magnet application. Place one corner of the custom decal against the vehicle and allow magnetic attraction to draw it into place.
• Gently press out air bubbles or lift and reapply a portion of the sign if needed. Do not drag the magnet along your car’s surface. Examine sign application to ensure all edges are sealed.
• If the sign is misaligned, carefully lift and reinstall it. Again, never slide magnets across the vehicle’s finish.
• To assure your logo magnet doesn’t budge during extreme wind, storms or at high speeds, lift and resecure it to your car on a routine basis.

#3: CAREFULLY MAINTAIN CHARLOTTESVILLE VEHICLE MAGNETS.

• Gently wipe daily dust and pollutants from your sign’s surface using a paper towel or rag. Use water, mild detergent or mild glass cleaner for quick cleaning.
• Remove, dry and reapply your sign after exposure to wet weather.
• Once per week: Lift the magnet and clean both the magnet and auto surfaces with water and mild detergent. Dry both thoroughly before reapplying the decal. Moisture, grit and debris trapped under the magnet could damage your car’s finish.
• Always remove the sign before washing your vehicle in an automatic car wash. (For best results, we recommend removing the sign when washing your vehicle by hand, too.)

#4: PROPERLY STORE MAGNETIC SIGNS

• Clean and dry magnetic signs before storing them.
• To store, lay magnetic decals flat. If stacking multiple signs, keep magnet sides from touching.
• Do not place heavy objects on top of stored vehicle signs.
• Avoid storing signs in very hot or cold conditions.
